THEODORE ROOSEVELT NATIONAL PARK (SOUTH)

"DMX must have really loved this place for them to name a State Park after one of his songs..." I said to my fiancee as we pulled into our campsite for the night. She nodded in agreement, although just as bewildered as I was. This definitely didn't seem like a place DMX would visit often. It wasn't until the next day, when we were at the Theodore Roosevelt National Park visitor center that we learned Teddy's Cavalry Crew was known as The Rough Riders... Boy, how stupid did we feel!

Obviously we're not that dumb, we already knew about Teddy and The Rough Riders. But I did say that joke, and my fiancee did laugh.

I am wondering though how many people even know about this National Park? I'm going to guess not many, as it's also in North Dakota which is aware of the fact it's often the last State people visit. But ol' Theodore spent a ton of time out here, especially in the town of Medora, and I can see why. Also, there's just something magical about being in a place, seeing the same sights, and touching the same earth as someone like Teddy Roosevelt.

But check out the skies in these photos, some look a little strange right? There was smoke from fires in Canada causing a strange haze in the atmosphere. It was giving the sky an iridescent pearl appearance, that's the best way I can describe it. The second to last photo is from White Butte, the highest point in North Dakota (don't laugh), and you can really see how weird it looked with clouds for contrast.

And special shout-out to Mr. Bob's Drive-In in Selby, South Dakota! We stopped there on our way to ND and the burgers were DAMN GOOD.
