THE HIGH UINTAS

Feeling small in the High Uintas, ant angles all around this beautiful place with big views! I've got two sets of photos here, the first 4 photos are from backpacking up to the Red Castle Lakes and the second set is another trip climbing up to King's Peak, the highest point in Utah. You can't miss it, it has a sign at the top.

The Red Castle Lakes are pretty stunning, very similar to some lakes in Glacier NP, as they're all features carved out by you guessed it, GLACIERS. The difference here obviously is the fact that the Uintas are all made up of red sedimentary rock as old as 700 million years in some layers, obviously.

It all makes for a really unique mountain range, uplifted and then carved by glaciers, and all sedimentary rock, vs a lot of other ranges which tend to be not sedimentary rock. How neat is that?!

King's Peak would give you a great overlook of the range, but unfortunately there was a nearby wildfire which obscured most of it with smoke by the time we got to the top. Those photos at the peak are B&W because the smoke basically washed out all the color anyways.

But I thought the last photo in the set was kind of cool because with the smoke and haze, it looks like a miniature landscape on an old movie set or something. As if Falkor, the dog dragon from The NeverEnding Story, is gonna fly through at any moment and then the credits roll to a heroic music score!

Also, after the King's Peak trip, I was nearly incapacitated for 2 weeks from neck and shoulder strain caused by carrying the camera on my shoulder strap for miles and miles. So when you look at these photos, and any photos of mine in the future, think about the sacrifices I've made to get them. And think about how it makes me feel when you read my posts and don't share any of this amazing content with your friends. You think about that.
