LOS ORIGINALES DEL RANCHO

Hotdogs numero dos y tres from my WHWS! (Wet Hot Wiener Summer, in case you forgot) These are Mexican Style Hotdogs from the Los Originales del Rancho food cart @losoriginales2727 here in Idaho Falls. I'm going to assume "Sinaloa Style" specifically based on their business card, but I really have no idea. It could just be the owner's wild creations for all I know.

Let me break this down for you so you know what you're looking at... In photo 1, is the Sencillo, their "basic" dog. There are 6 other hotdogs, all being a variation of the Sencillo, which makes 7 in total if you needed help with 1+6. And these things are loaded - I assure you there is a wiener tucked deep between those buns.

Here's the list of toppings on just the Sencillo: Bacon, Tomato, Onion, Sweet Onion, Guac, Mayo, Ketchup, Mustard, Chipotle, and Cotija Cheese.

How they fit all of that shit inside there so neatly boggles my mind, it's masterfully done.

The Corrales (photo 3) is all of that with mozzarella and extra bacon on top. I stupidly added that half-assed line of mustard thinking it would make for a better photo.

I'll say first that the Corrales was just ok for me, 4/7, I wasn't crazy about the mozzarella. But that may have been because it was hot outside and not conducive to shoving a hot and heavy hitter into my body. The drink I got with it was refreshing though! Jamaica, a sweet hibiscus tea, pronounced "Hah-mai-ka," NOT "Juh-may-kuh" as I asked for it like the gringo moron I am.

But the Sencillo, WOW. You'd think with all the toppings it would be sloppy, but it's deceiving. The bun, which I believe is a Bolillo roll, is the perfect vessel for it all. Soft, yet strong enough to not get soggy on the ride home. I can't tell what kind of hotdog/sausage they're using but it had a nice bite to it, and I think it's seared/grilled. And again, there's a lot going on with the toppings, but it works, and it was exactly what I needed at 11pm. HOWEVER, this was right after a baseball game earlier in the evening where I had a terrible hotdog experience (review coming soon), so maybe the difference between the two is factoring into my score... but I'm sticking with what I felt that night. A 6/7!
